Literacy and Math- Tell the Story!
Greetings everyone and happy Sunday!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday! This week I’m focusing on making the connection between reading and math with my students by approaching word problems as if they are stories. I teach second grade so word problems are a daily part of our math practice, and two-step problems have been tricky! It’s been helpful for them to think of what part is missing and connect it to our B.M.E chart (beginning, middle, end) for Reading Workshop. They are also using this to re-think bar models and number bonds, as they reveal parts to a whole. What are some strategies you use to make word problems more approachable for your students?
