It’s true that great minds think alike! My second grade students are in their character unit, and we just finished a lesson on character feelings and emotions. On an anchor chart I printed out an emoji poster for them to use as a reference, since they are very familiar with this. My co-teacher and I were brainstorming ways we can have them carry this through from the mini-lesson to their independent reading time, so we started with a simple copy of the chart for them to have in their reading folders. Now, thanks to Chuck, we have bookmarks! There are ways to adapt this for earlier readers too, and I can’t wait to differentiate this for my class!

Hey @Leana this is so great to hear. I am so happy that you are going to try out the bookmarks. Let me know how it goes!

I use emojis quite a bit in different ways for my students as well and they really love it 🙂 I may share another emoji strategy as one of the two minute tips as well because I think they can be adapted to any level.

Let me know if you want any other emoji style materials, I have a bunch from punch cards, feedback tools, simple quick assessment and more 🙂

The Emjoi Box you shared with us has been a fantastic tool to use with my middle graders. The simplicity of understanding with emojis is something we all need to embrace!
